TCLOCS PRE-RIDE INSPECTION CHECKLIST
If you're gearing up for a long bike ride, you need to know about this "TCLOCS PRE-RIDE INSPECTION CHECKLIST". You never know when your bike will keep you crying, so it's better to be prepared.
Now, why am I telling you this?‚ Well, like every December, I go on these long rides, and my next one is just three days away, from Hyderabad to Nepal and back. So, tomorrow is my day to run through the TCLOCS PRE-RIDE INSPECTION CHECKLIST for my Royal Enfield Classic 350. Some folks don't care, and some just don't know about this stuff, but, mark my words, it's going to save us at least once in a lifetime, so why not share the knowledge?
I can't speak for all bikes bceause I've only fixed up my own until today. But this TCLOCS PRE-RIDE INSPECTION CHECKLIST isn't for a few; it's good for any bike, not just mine.
So, let's get into it: the T-CLOCS PRE-RIDE INSPECTION CHECKLIST. Remember, these numbers I'm going to throw at you are for my Royal Enfield Classic 350 RE. If you're riding a different bike, you better check your service manual.
T-CLOCS stands for tires and wheels, controls, lights and electrics, oil and other fluids, chassis, chain, and stands. These are the things you want to check before you hit the road for a long ride. Trust me, if you get the hang of it, you might never have to send your bike to the mechanic again.
T: Tires and wheels:
1. Check your tire pressure with a gauge. Keep it around 30-32 psi. For the front, 32 psi is the best fit. And for the back, if you've got a pillion rider, go for 34-36 psi, and 36 is the best fit. If it's just you, 32 psi for the rear is enough.
2. Check your tires for any cuts, bulges, or punctures. Make sure there's enough tread left.
C: Controls:
1. Take a peek at both front and rear brake pads. Easy to remove; just check out some YouTube videos. Your brake levers and pedals should feel firm, not spongy.
2. Check your throttle and clutch cables for any kinks.
3. Make sure your brake and clutch levers are adjusted correctly. (Clutch free play should be 12mm freed)
L: Lights and Electrics:
1. Are both your headlights and taillights working? Check.
2. Give your front and rear turn indicators a test.
3. Honk that horn - make sure it's loud and proud :).
4. Battery: Fasten that battery tight, clean those terminals, and add some grease to not allow carbon soon.
Oil and Fluids:
1. Check your engine oil level. There's a glass thing on the engine side. Oil should be up to the top, 2.5 L is what RE suggests for a classic 350 old. (Which oil should we use? Here is a clear answer: https://qr.ae/pKOd02)
2. Brake fluid levels? Max it out.
C-Chassis:
1. Check your front forks and rear suspension for oil leaks and proper movement.
2. Tighten all nuts and bolts like they owe you money.
3. Check the chain tension. Don't forget to apply clean then lube.
4. Look for cracks or damage in the Frame and subframe.
S: Stands: Side Stand and Center Stand checkup.
That's it. Happy riding!
